Mt Wellington - 8 May 2007

Nice walk up Mt Wellington today. Sunny for a fair bit of the time, but the wind was pretty strong and cold at the summit. Anyway, I photographed some more fungi. I think I'm going mad!

I also took a few other photos. This one of Mt Wellington from Huon Rd shows the clear line across the front of the mountain - which people often assume is where the road runs. But it isn't. The obvious line is the line where the power lines run. Years ago, you could clearly see the road, including the armcos and watch cars travel all the way across the front of the mountain, but the trees have grown a lot in 40 years since 1967, and the growing trees have gradually hidden the road almost entirely from this side. If you look from Glenorchy, you can still see cars in places - the vegetation around that side is higher, and thus a little thinner. It would be interesting to get a set of photos together tracking the view of the mountain over the period from say 1966 to the present day.
